Calgary Community Club League / Edmonton Community Club League
This season there are plans for the leagues to start in the middle of October.
The Community/City Club League is a gathering of athletes, coaches, referees, and volunteers who participate and/or deliver water polo games at the grassroots and early-competitive stages of the LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development model). The Community Club League participants are made up of clubs and their members from Calgary and surrounding areas or the Edmonton area. There is a steering committee of club representatives, coaches and AWPA staff members who collaborate and work together to create, organize, and deliver the Community Club League for the benefit, first and foremost, of ALL the athletes involved.
The purpose of Community Club League is to provide an opportunity for clubs and their athletes to play games in a SAFE, FUN, LEARNING ENVIRONMENT with the focus on skill development, inclusion, fun and sportsmanship. The league provides opportunities for athletes to learn the rules of game play by modifying the pool size, number of athletes in the water and length of games. It also provides opportunities for new referees to practice their skills. There is no official scorekeeping or play-offs. Scheduling is directly dependent on the number of teams participating and the pool space available. The steering committees have the flexibility to adjust game play based on the number of athletes available (e.g. they may “borrow” athletes from other Community League teams).
